  • Tim Murphy

Tim Murphy (aka Grimy) is a native of New Hampshire and has always had a love for artistic creation, whether it be drawing, painting, music or numerous other endeavors. Although he studied commercial design and illustration in college he is a self taught artist when it comes to his paintings. At an early age he immersed himself in the graffiti culture but slowly evolved into “fine” art painting focusing mostly on portraits in a
    contemporary expressionistic style.

I am heavily influenced by human nature and fascinated by the human face and capturing portraits through paint, that is where my entire inspiration comes from. I have met so many different people traveling around the globe, living abroad and throughout New England and touring most of the U.S. I tend to focus on the “ugly” side of society, our relationships with addiction, depression, infidelity, our obsession with pop culture and our own deeply seeded vanity and selfishness. Our true selves are reflected in my paintings and these images of who we are make up the dark underbelly of this world.

  • Cindy Mauchi

Cindy Mauchi’s fashion illustrations depict exaggerated posture, shapes and proportions captured on paper using pencil, ink, and watercolor. Her sketches are quick lines and brushstrokes that define the spontaneity of her unique style.

Mauchi studied Fashion Design at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York and was a senior designer at Nautica and Tommy Hilfiger.

Today, she works remotely as a fashion consultant from her studio in New Hampshire and has been focusing on her fashion illustrations studying at The Art Student League of New York since 2020 under Charles Nitzberg. In recent years, however, Dave has delved deeper into ink drawings, charcoal and graphite drawings, and watercolor painting. Dave says art is a form of meditation for him, taking his mind on beautiful journeys. Dave said this particular exhibit sparked his interest as it combined both theatre and physical art. Dave lives in Springvale with his wife Wanda.

While more accustomed to working with video these days, he was delighted to bring back some of his projection photos from earlier explorations in photography, and knew they would be a perfect addition to the MillSpace “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” gallery. He’s honored to be featured both in the MillSpace gallery this season, and on the MillSpace stage as Bottom in Dive In Production’s “Midsummer Night’s Dream,” running from May 31st to June 9th.

  • Katelin Garland

Katelin is thrilled to have her work displayed and to be making her artist gallery debut with Millspace! As an artist from the seacoast area, she has always had a passion for visual arts. Specifically, she often blends her love of painting and theatre by taking on scenic art projects. Notably, Katelin worked as a scenic overhire for 6 weeks on the 2019 Greta Gerwig film Little Women. When not painting for sets or film, she enjoys personal projects usually taking form through acrylic on canvas. • Joe Martell

"Many of these works combine gestural and hard edge painting. The early On the Horizon series explores line as an object, as a volume, as an edge. Drawing is often referenced in the painting. Color is used as perspective, as light and atmosphere...”

Living in Newmarket, NH, Joe is a prolific, non-objective painter. His recent work is inspired by light sources and color as he continues to explore line and gesture on the picture plain. Also of interest, his painting explores relationships between the macrocosm and microcosm in the physical world. He no longer signs his work on the front so as not to define or 'limit 'the scale of the work. Joe's art is in numerous public and private collections in the USA and Europe.

  • Kathleen King

Kathleen King is a versatile artist whose journey into mixed media art was sparked by her incredibly talented and artistic friend, Monee Williams, who introduced her to the medium in 2019. As a full-time federal employee, mother, and avid gardener, Kathleen's artistic expression has evolved from capturing moments in nature through photography to creating intricate mixed media pieces that reflect her profound connection to the natural world. Kathleen found her calling in mixed media art as a means of navigating through grief and finding solace after the passing of her father in February 2023. Using her creativity not only during difficult times but also to celebrate the beauty and joy that surrounds her. She finds inspiration in old poetry books, art, and children's books, often incorporating quotes and poems into her work to fuel her creative process. Kathleen's passion for thrifting and vintage hunting adds a unique dimension to her art, as she repurposes found objects to bring her ideas to life. While she admits to forming attachments to her creations, Kathleen finds joy in sharing her art with loved ones and those who inspire her. Through her art, Kathleen King not only finds solace and focus but also creates meaningful moments with her artistic children, coming together on Friday nights to create, listen to music, and enjoy each other's company. Her mixed media artworks serve as a testament to the transformative power of creativity and the connections it fosters within her family and community.

  • Pierre A. Garand

For sixty years, drawing with light, photography has been an integral part of my life. After getting my first camera, a plastic box with a fixed focus lens, and a little later a Sears & Roebucks darkroom kit, I taught myself with books, magazines, manuals and advice. I was the student candid photographer for my high school yearbook, traveled the country as a portraitist, tried some event photography, did some publicity work, some very little teaching; but what I really wanted was to have my images adorning home and office walls. I'm a member of the New Hampshire Center for Photography (formerly New Hampshire Society of Photographic Artists), and am involved as a volunteer and exhibitor at the Newmarket Millspace Gallery. My primary subject is Nature generally, my favorite elements being skies, flowers, wildlife, insects, spiders, trees, water, and anything that strikes me as unusual, that might go unnoticed by most; I particularly like getting up close

She has been fortunate to study sculpture, pottery and painting, in both formal programs and casual workshops. • Hilaree Robinson

Hilaree Robinson is a mixed media artist, poet, novelist and homeschooling mom. She tends to work on larger scale canvases with acrylic paint as her foundational medium of choice because she needs a substrate size that will accept and accommodate her arm flailing, subject rotating and general mayhem. Her themes include the emotional expression and justification/exploration of power that arises in women acculturated to prioritize caretaking of others and self-negation. She uses many layers of paint, oil pastel and found objects to create an intuitive and unexpected outcome. She usually does not plan. Her contemporary influences are Portland, Oregon based artists Jesse Reno and Flora Bowley, both of whom she attributes much of her current technique. She is grateful to Susan Schwake of Artstream for encouragement and past exhibition opportunities and to her family and friends for their support.
