About Us
At its core, the Millspace is a community living room - a place for people to gather, share ideas and enjoy each other’s company.
Our community volunteers have established a vibrant civic space in Newmarket, New Hampshire dedicated to creative and cultural exploration and experimentation. The space offers opportunities to increase the quality and variety of educational and community-oriented programs as we effectively steward a corner of the historic mill, honoring its legacy of historical significance to the town.
The Millspace serves its community by…
Reflecting the cultural and artistic interests of the residents, nonprofit organizations, and businesses of Newmarket.
Offering community members creative and learning opportunities in the form of round table discussions, workshops, panels, lectures, visual and audio gallery installations, historical engagement, music, education, and live theater.
Offering community members the availability of the space as a function hall for trade shows, exhibitions, conferences, banquets, corporate meetings, and private gatherings.
Providing an evolving cultural environment that widens engagement in interdisciplinary practices with attention ranging from the historical significance of the mills to new technologies offered by the digital era and its collaborative culture.
Establishing work space for musicians, entrepreneurs, designers, programmers, writers, freelancers, and technologists to interact and collaborate in the exploration of history, technology, art, business, film, photography, theater, community, and the web.

The space is currently available to be rented based on availability and board approval. We require a refundable security deposit to protect against any damages. The Millspace is at the river / basement level of the Newmarket Mills, which comes with unique challenges. Please make time to attend Millspace events and otherwise tour the space before considering a rental. Email info@millspace.org to inquire.

The Lamprey Arts and Culture Alliance has a liquor license for Millspace which means that we can serve alcohol. We currently serve beer, wine and hard cider at select events. LACA is responsible for managing the bar, so all liquor must be served by our bartenders and paid for (no free alcohol). If you would like to have alcohol served at your community event, then let us know and we will work with you to hire a bartender. This will include set up and break down for a convenience fee.

The Lamprey Arts and Culture Alliance (or LACA) is the official name of the 501c3 that was established in 2006. Millspace is the main focus of LACA and in 2014 “Millspace Center for Art, Culture and History” became a DBA (doing business as) legal name in New Hampshire for the Lamprey Arts and Culture Alliance. They are often used interchangeably to refer to the organization and the space, but technically the community volunteers are LACA and the space is the Millspace.
