Harvest! A deliciously fun-filled evening

Harvest! was a great success and we want to thank everyone who came out to celebrate all things fresh and local with us on Saturday, September 27.  We had an incredible array of dishes made with ingredients from dozens of area farms and gardens.  One guest shared “It made me conscientious about how I prepared my dish. I knew I had to get to a farm stand to shop.” Local restaurants The Joinery and Basil Leaf Thai Cuisine graciously donated amazing dishes to our table and our dinner guests sipped on iced tea blends from White Heron.

Some of our most nutrient dense foods come from miles away, but we can combine them with extraordinary local foods. Sara-Zoe Patterson of Seacoast Eat Local challenged us to introduce someone new to a farm stand. She shared the impact of our choices is to local farmers and growers. SNAP/EBT cards are also now accepted at several area farmers markets so that everyone has access to locally sourced foods. Jeff Cantara of New Roots Farm shared his perspective on the unexpected nature of farming and the continuous lesson of perseverance. We cleared the tables from the center of the hall to make room for dancing as our evening was wrapped up by the fantastic sounds of Computer Beach Party.

We appreciate the tremendous support of our amazing Executive Chef sponsor Appledore Real Estate as well as Rebecca Proctor of RSP Studio Custom Framing who organized the incredible Harvest! gallery inside Millspace. She has graciously donated her time and talents in framing several of the pieces from local artist. We also loved teaming with Mr. Fox Composting to assist in our efforts to make this a zero waste event. We hope you will consider them at your next gathering.

T20140927_211528his delicious event had something for every pallet and we cannot wait to do it again during the next Harvest! season. In the meantime, we hope you will take the time to make the healthy choice for you, your family, and the local economy and  visit one of several  area Winter Farmers’ Markets to support local growers and farmers.

We thank you for your continued support of Newmarket Millspace as we embark on our first year. We can’t wait to see you again!
